I am posting
It's been a while but I've been busy... *busy on the computer. Keeping myself busy? and honestly I feel kinda productive, I've signed up (sorta) for two art things and just like, did them within a few days, liek some kind of anti-procrastination squad member. Then I got stuck on something harder but I'm still working on it, but it's a nice feeling because winter usually has me useless for months and I've actually felt pretty good recently. I feel like I'm slowing down but I don't wanna so I think I'm going to start on something longer term... we'll see how that goes. It's so hard cry cry.
books n movies and such update:
I feel like all the girlies are into reading right now, and I'm definitely down for it. I'm currently reading Floating Dragon (er, unfortunate timing for a book that's partially about a cloud of evil gas settling over an unknowing community but a lot of other crazy shit happens that's unrelated), some old book that I think is probably King-esque but I've never read any of his so I'm finding it novel at least. Well I'm pretty sure I TRIED to read one of his in like... high school but definitely didn't finish. Honestly I don't read that much horror aside from Clive Barker, I feel like so much of it is just like... well I shouldn't project everywhere, I'll just say that I don't really find a lot of stuff scary so it's hard for me to get into when there's like, big misses. This is probably why I prefer body horror/space weirdness/general weirdness. I can't say I care that much about most of the characters in Floating Dragon but I do like the weirdness and fucked up wild shit that's happening. I enjoy imagining the ground welling up blood and people's skin melting. I'm so over the cozy revolution is what I'm trying to say here and I'm having fun.
Movies? Yeah I seen some of them. I've been trying to pick back up on watching through examples of art cinema movements like a little nerd, which has been semi successful but the next two movies I have on the docket are 5 and 7 hours, which is an investment, and I can't stop myself from navigating to tubi and watching movies no one gives a fuck about.
My absolute favorite recent watch? J'Accuse, 1919. I can't recommend this more, especially with a remake of All Quiet on the Western Front ghoulishly wandering around trying to win awards. You might have to be a silent film weirdo to enjoy it, sure, but I couldn't believe how into this I got. The love triangle that probably seems pointless to some people as the emotional anchor for these soldiers and the woman they both love. The break down of a sensitive poet into a man who hates his former softness. The artistry of these shots so early in film, that just made me cry by showing fucking, water. The notable late scene of WWI soldiers coming back to life to haunt their families starring actual soldiers who went off to the front almost immediately after, the majority of them dying, and probably knowing they would? It's phenomenal and unforgettable, it's free on youtube.
1928 Fall of the House of Usher was obviously not... you know, all that, but it's a really fun watch with some great old effects. Short and sweet, though I didn't really like the score that I watched it with, it felt too modern idea of horror music rather than from the era. It's funny how much difference that can make. I'd really recommend this one too, (especially if you don't have 3 hours to invest).
And my modern pick is obviously lmao 1976's Sebastiane. Yes this director loves men and depicting men, but there's a particular sequence in this that's like, 8 minutes idk of such pure beauty. Maybe water just makes me cry?? No, it was just... lovely, loving, so long it turns sunkissed skin into texture and sand, water into glitter, such a depiction of joy! in the middle of a story about how a man became a typical fucked up saint. I've really come to love period pieces that are like, older than the 1700s and this hit the spot for me (obviously it's way older than that, I just mean like, in general I want ye olde tymes) in so many ways.
Unfortunately none of the dumb tubi movies have made it into the spotlight, but it's just a good time. I saw someone describe it as the only streaming service that replicates going into a video store well, and I agree with that.
In games I'm just playing Theatrhythm heheheh I love it and I'm glad it seems to be universally liked as far as I've seen. Otherwise I'm waiting for the next Like a Dragon and feel kinda weird because I've been Not Playing Games as I normally do.
And I'm really proud I actually finished my sewing project of: a dress last week. T_T thanks to my friend helping me. I got some new fabric so I need to make those pants I wanted to try. I wish I hadn't put myself into stretchy fabric hell but I made my bed and now I'll sleep in it. (haha I'm going to bed now... funny) I need to get back to some other stuff I've been neglecting. I'm watching the Monster anime while having dinner and finally was like yeah I can read subtitles while crossstiching. I'm not going super FAST but that's all right, at least it's something. Also Monster is too long I read the manga forever ago but it's like man I'm getting bored I can only take so much anime in one stretch.
